Te number of Italian cinema goers fell 72% between 2019 and 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, licensing and copy right office SIAE said Thursday.
Spending was down even more sharply, by 78%, the agency said,
although there have been signs of a timid recovery since the end
of the most critical phase of the COVID emergency this year.
If it is true that in the first six months of 2022 signs of
recovery emerged, 2019 is still "far away", SIAE said.
"The challenge," said SIAE President and legendary lyricist
Mogol, "is to seize the opportunities for change".
Director-General Gaetano Blandini called for "targeted aid" in
order to lift the struggling sector out of the doldrums.
