The 'Vase of Women and Architecture' by Gio Ponti, artistic director for Manifattura Richard Ginori from 1923 to 1930, will be center stage at this year's Pitti Uomo from June 14 to June 17 at Florence's Fortezza da Basso.
The 96-diameter vase with blue and white decorations is
decorated with depictions of eight women on clouds that are
different from each other due to the position of their limbs and
their hairstyles.
Their names are on the neck of the vase on two
levels, separated by a broken blue line.
Ponti's work retraces millennia of history dating from the
ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians to the Renaissance. Some
400 hours of hand-painting were required to make it, as well as
12 brushes, 4 colors and 5 liters of water to dilute the paint.
