Sofia Coppola's production of La
Traviata has broken the Rome Opera House's all-time box-office
record by notching 1.2 million euros in ticket sales five days
before its debut on Tuesday, Superintendent Carlo Fuortes said
Friday. The cost of putting on the opera, with costumes by
Valentino, were "just under 1.8 million euros" so "it is already
paying its way which is fantastic for an opera house".
