Works by early 20th-century
Italian artists opened Thursday at Rome's Modern Art Gallery
(GAM).
The exhibition titled Elective Affinities from De Chirico to
Burri includes work by Felice Casorati, Filippo De Pisis, and
Giorgio Morandi, among others.
Many of the pieces are on loan from the Magnani Rocca
collection in Parma. The show begins with De Chirico's
It runs through March 13.
The exhibition, curated by Stefano Roffi, Maria Catalano,
Federica Pirania and Gloria Raimondi, starts off from a key work
by de Chirico, 'Enigma della Partenza' of 1914, belonging to the
Magnani Rocca collection.
Other masterpieces on show include Casorati's 'Susanna'
(1929), 'Busto di giovinetta' by Ettore Colla, 'La Diavoleria'
by Ferrazzi (1929-1930), 'Marina' by Carlo Carrà (1932) and
numerous works by de Pisis.
There is also a section dedicated to the still lifes of
Giorgio Morandi, a nucleus put together by Magnani partly thanks
to his friendship with the Bolognese master.
It includes works from the 1920s, 40s, 50s and 60s,
displayed alongside still lifes by Francalancia, Melli,
Trifoglio, Janni, Colacicchi, Trombadori, Capogrossi, Afro.
