Italian pop star Laura Pausini
opened her Miami home to ANSA to share the story of her latest
album.
Titled Simili (Similar), it is to be released November 6 in
60 countries on the Atlantic-Warner Music label.
A Spanish version is set for release on November 13.
"Becoming a mother has changed my life, in terms of work as
well," the 41-year-old singer-songwriter and record producer
told ANSA.
"Now I have a responsibility and a broadmindedness that I
didn't have before," she said.
"Simili is the least autobiographical of my albums," she
said of the 12-track release, her first since the birth of her
daughter Paola two and a half years ago.
She said some of the tracks were inspired by fans, and
others were written for her by friends and colleagues such as
singer-songrwiters Lorenzo Jovanotti, Biagio Antonacci and
Giuliano Sangiorgi.
"Lorenzo has been proposing pieces to me for the past 10
years, but none of them were ever right," said the pop star, a
native of the small Emilia Romagna town of Solarolo, pop. 4,000.
"Innamorata was it," she said of track four on her new
album.
Antonacci - who has previously written songs for Pausini -
has three tracks on the new album, which will be released as a
CD, a deluxe CD-DVD with 15 tracks, and on vinyl.
Among them are a lullaby dedicated to her daughter, and
Lato Destro del Cuore (Right Side of the Heart), the first
single from the album.
"It's not an easy piece, nor is it radio-friendly. But...it
represents Italian poetics...and I can take responsibility if
it's not a radio hit," she said.
Pausini said the "hands-down most beautiful song" on the
album is track 12, written by Sangiorgi and titled Sono Solo
Nuvole (They're Just Clouds).
"The more I'm abroad, the more I sing in Italian," she
said. "I choose songs based on the lyrics - everything starts
from there".
Pausini remains in Miami through December as a judge for
talent show La Banda, after doing the same for La Voz talent
show in Spain and Mexico.
She has turned down a gig to co-host the Sanremo Music
Festival, but said she will be happy to return as a guest.
