Oscar-winning American actress
Diane Keaton is set to star alongside Jude Law in Paolo
Sorrentino's eight-episode TV series The Young Pope.
Keaton will play the role of Sister Mary, an American nun
who lives in the Vatican City.
Law will play the main character, a fictional
Italian-American pontiff, Pope Pius XIII, born Lenny Belardo.
The series will focus on the pope's complex character and
how he balances his rigid conservatism with his deep compassion
for the poor and weak.
It will also explore and analyse power dynamics in an
institution that is supposed to be founded on selfless love.
Filming of the series, a joint production of Sky, HBO and
Canal+, started this week.
