Oscar-winner Paolo Sorrentino is set
to make another red carpet run as his film Youth debuts at the
Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.
Sorrentino's English-language film is one of three Italian
films competing for coveted Palme d'Or in the cinema festival's
'In Competition' category.
Youth traces the nihilism he admires in Youth, which stars
Harvey Keitel and Michael Caine as two octogenarian residents of
an Alpine hotel taking age-defying cures and reminiscing about
their ill-spent youth, a bittersweet tale mixing jaded nostalgia
and humor.
Sorrentino is part of intense compatriot competition with
fellow Italians, award-winning directors Matteo Garrone and
Nanni Moretti whose films Tale of Tales and Mia Madre were
presented earlier in the Cannes program to much acclaim.
At the same time as its debut in Cannes, Youth will also
open in Italian cinemas on Wednesday.
