Rapper Emis Killa said on Wednesday
that he will not be performing at the Sanremo song festival
after learning from newspaper reports that he was under
investigation.
The rapper, a 35-year-old AC Milan fan whose real name is
Emiliano Rudolf Giambelli, said that, after learning "from the
newspapers" that he was involved in an anti-Mafia probe into AC
Milan and Inter Milan ultra leaders, he would not be attending
the festival, which is scheduled to take place on February
11-15.
"After a 15-year-long career I was preparing for my first
Sanremo" festival, the rapper said, thanking presenter and
artistic director Carlo Conti for "wanting me".
However, he announced in a story on Instagram, "I prefer to take
a step back and not participate" so that the investigation, if
confirmed, can proceed without controversies.
The artist was due to perform his song Demoni (Demons).
Milan newspaper Corriere della Sera on Wednesday wrote that
Killa would be performing at Sanremo despite that fact that
Milan's police chief Bruno Megale had ordered him not to attend
football matches and other sporting events over the next three
years and that he was involved in an anti-Mafia probe into AC
Milan and Inter Milan ultra leaders.
The paper noted that he was deemed "too dangerous to enter a
stadium but he can serenely perform in Sanremo".
Killa said on Wednesday he had been aware of the three-year ban
but not that he was under investigation.
Killa was reportedly identified by investigators with 14 other
ultra fans while hitting a steward at the stadium and is
allegedly friends and a business partner with ultra leaders
involved in the investigation including Fabiano Capuzzo and Luca
and Francesco Lucci.
