Calls to Italy's gender violence and
stalking hotline tripled in December, women's group Differenza
Donna told the Lower House femicide committee Friday.
Calls from worried and desperate women were 5,000 in October,
9,000 in November and 13,000 in December, said Elisa Ercoli,
president of the association.
She said "we need to promote this number all year round and not
only on 25 November," which is the International Day for the
Elimination of Violence Against Women.
1522 is Italy's free 24-hour violence and stalking helpline.
