A peak in Italian flu cases over the
holidays is stressing hospitals, the head of the Italian
doctors federation Filippo Anelli said Saturday.
"We are close to the peak of the flu epidemic, and the
anticipation of this moment, which generally arrives at the end
of January, is leading to a greater influx in emergency rooms,
coinciding with the closure of doctors' offices for the
holidays, bringing stressful situations," he said.
"This year the situation seems worse than in previous years
precisely because of this time coincidence," added Anelli,
pointing out that the entire system, including that of family
doctors in recent weeks, is experiencing an increase in work and
inconvenience.
