Prosecutors and technical experts are
looking into the circumstances of Wednesday evening's rail
accident in which five railway workers were hit and killed by a
train travelling at speed while working on the tracks at
Brandizzo station near Turin shortly before midnight, Deputy
Premier and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini
said on Thursday.
"Prosecutors and technicians are verifying how such a dramatic
accident could have occurred last night," Salvini wrote on
Facebook.
"The rule is that work on the tracks can only commence once it
has been certified that there are no trains on the line," he
added.
