Separations in Italy in 2021 rose by
22.5% to 97,913 over the previous year, according to a report
published by the national statistics institute (ISTAT) on
Monday.
Divorces increased by 24.8% to 83.192 in the same period, ISTAT
added.
The report said in 2021 85.5% of separations and 70.9% of
divorces were consensual, in line with the previous year.
On 1 March Italy introduced new laws on separation and divorce
under a reform spearheaded by the former justice minister, Marta
Cartabia. The new rules include, among other elements, the
possibility of combining judicial separation and divorce in a
single legal proceeding.
