The Milan detention review tribunal
on Friday denied ex-gangster Renato Vallanzasca's plea for
parole for the third time.
Vallanzasca, 72, had filed pleas for parole and for
'semi-liberty'.
The top Milan gangster of the 1970s and '80s, nicknamed 'il Bel
Rene'' due to his good looks and glamorous lifestyle, is
serving four life sentences plus another 296 years in jail.
The tribunal said that from "an altercation" he had with a
prison officer during "a urine check" last August, on his return
to Milan's Bollate Prison from a furlough, and for which he was
'sanctioned with a warning', "the intemperate character" of the
ageing ex-gangster had been confirmed and he was thus unworthy
of semi-release.
"He has not come to his senses and has not compensated the
victims", the tribunal added.
