A married couple who own the factory
where a landmark workplace accident death happened in May 2021
on Thursday plea bargained suspended sentences of two years and
one and a half years.
A 22-year-old worker with a five-year-old son, Luana D'Orazio,
was mangled to death by a weaving machine in Prato on May 3,
2021, putting the spotlight on a wave of workplace deaths and
spurring government action that has so far proven mostly
ineffective.
On Thursday factory owner Luana Coppini plea bargained a
suspended term of two years and her husband Daniele Faggi, the
effective owner, agreed with a judge on a one and a half year
suspended sentence.
D'Orazio's mother Emma Marrazzo said she was "very disappointed"
by the verdicts, saying "I was hoping for a juster penalty, a
more exemplary verdict".
