A 28-year-old man captured after
a shoot-out with officers on Thursday has confessed to the
double murder of his parents at their home in Settimo San
Pietro, near the Sardinian city of Cagliari, police said Friday.
Igor Diana confessed during questioning at Iglesias
hospital, where he is being treated for the wounds he suffered
in a shootout with police and Carabinieri officers.
"I don't know what came over me and I killed them," he
reportedly told police. "I don't remember what happened".
He has been charged with murder.
Giuseppe Diana, 67, and wife Luciana Corgiolu, 62, were
found bludgeoned and stabbed to death at their home on
Wednesday. Forensics said the couple were likely killed Sunday
night.
The next day, the son went out, purchased some marijuana,
went to a bar to play the slot machines, then drove off in his
father's SUV.
Igor and a younger brother aged 24 are originally Russian
and had been adopted.
Sources said his personality changed radically after he was
in a car crash in 2013.
The motive for the double killing is still unknown.
