Professional women in Italy earned 41% less on average than their male peers in 2013, a study revealed Friday in view of International Women's Day March 8.
The gender pay gap was highest among lawyers and notaries, where the women saw paychecks worth 53.8% less than their male peers, according to the report by the Italian association for private pension funds Associazione degli Enti Previdenziali Privati (ADEPP).
For healthcare professionals - like doctors, dentists, veterinarians, and nurses - women's salaries were docked 46% compared to men. For engineers, architects, contractors, industrial auditors and other technical professionals, gender cost women 42.1% of their compensation.
