The ANSA.it website on Friday announced it won the Ischia prize for online journalism.
ANSA Editor-in-Chief Luigi Contu said in a video commentary that the prize comes after the Italian communications authority AGCOM found ANSA ranked third among news websites.
Contu also thanked editorial and technical staff for their daily efforts on behalf of the newswire. Tunisian blogger Lina Ben Mehnni, who has had a prominent role in reporting on the Arab spring, took the international Ischia prize of the 35th edition of the International Ischia Prize for Journalism. Television news director Mario Orfeo, head of RAI TG1, and journalist Fiorenza Sarzanini of the national Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, were named journalists of the year.
Paolo Mieli, a prominent journalist and former director of Il Corriere della Sera, won the Golden Pen award.
