Italy's annual inflation rate has
risen to 2% this month, up from 1.9% in March, according to a
preliminary estimate released by Istat on Wednesday.
The national statistics agency said the increase was driven by
accelerations in the price rises of food, which went up to 3.0%
from 2.4%, and transport-related services, up to 4.4% from 1.6%.
Istat said its consumer price index was up by 0.2% in
month-on-month terms.
It added that core inflation, excluding energy and unprocessed
food, rose to 2.1% in April from 1.7% in March, while inflation
excluding energy was 2.2%, up from 1.8% the previous month.
Istat's shopping trolley index of the prices of food and
household and personal care goods accelerated this month too,
rising from 2.1% to 2.6%.
