The government on Tuesday called
trade unions to a meeting Friday to examine pension moves in the
2017 budget bill, the government said in a statement. A meeting
has been called for 08:00 on October 14, it said. Premier Matteo
Renzi has switched from his initial position and is now
consulting the big three union federations - CGIL, CISL and UIL
- on pension reforms including letting people near pension age
retire earlier on lower pensions and giving preferential
treatment to people in physically demanding jobs.
