King Charles III has send a private
message to Pope Leo XIV congratulating him on his election as
the leader of the Catholic Church, Buckingham Palace has said.
The message paid tribute to the new pontiff's dedication to
service, compassion and spiritual guidance of the faithful
throughout his life, sources said.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were the penultimate public
figures to meet Pope Francis before he died.
The last public figure was US Vice President JD Vance, who met
him in the Vatican on Easter Sunday, the day before he died.
