Cult film director Martin Scorsese
remembered late Pope Francis's warmth and humour in an interview
with Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano on Thursday.
"Remembering Pope Francis now, I think of his warmth. His
frankness. His humor. His irreverence. His extraordinary energy.
His deep commitment to his pastoral mission. His intelligence.
And I think of the attention he paid to everyone. I think of his
great openness and his generosity towards me in every moment we
shared. And I think of his radiant presence"., said Scorsese, a
believer and director of the controversial The Last Temptation
of Christ.
"Scorsese recalled that Pope Francis told him: "You are more
than a director: you are a good teacher, which is more
important".
"He had no use for anything that had the feel of official
approval," the director says.
"He rejected any story or image that 'domesticated' Jesus, as he
put it. For him, the greatest novels, poems, films and pieces of
music embodied the eternal mystery of who and what we are, and
the greater mystery of God's love."
