The Vatican said over 250,000 people
attended Pope Francis's funeral, according to the information it
had from the "competent authorities" as the service was closing
on Saturday.
Rome police, meanwhile, said early on Saturday that thousands of
faithful had already taken up positions along the six-kilometre
route of the late pontiff's funeral procession from St Peter's
to Rome's Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he will be laid to
rest.
