Vatican Secretary of State Pietro
Parolin of Italy and Filipino Luis Antonio Tagle are leading the
field of 'papabili' tipped to succeed late Pope Francis, British
bookmakers are saying.
The Italian is on 35% and the Filipino on 25%.
Also quoted in the top places are the Hungarian Peter Erdo, the
Portuguese Jose Tolentino, two other Italians - bishops chief
Matteo Zuppi of Bologna and Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin
Patriarch of Jerusalem - as well as the Africans Fridolin
Ambongo Besungu, Peter Turkson and Robert Sarah.
Some bookies do not even exclude two people over eighty who will
not participate in the Conclave but are still eligible on paper,
such as the Italian Angelo Scola, former archbishop of Milan,
and the Canadian Marc Ouellet.
Meanwhile, the British tabloid Daily Mail has questioned
artificial intelligence on who will be the new Pope and in this
case too, the result was Cardinal Parolin, Secretary of State of
the Holy See.
The conclave is expected to start Monday May 5.
