Italy is convinced Ukraine should
have guarantees in a Euro-Atlantic context after any possible
future ceasefire deal with Russia, Premier Giorgia Meloni's
office at Palazzo Chigi said after a government summit on her
participation Wednesday in the Ukraine summit in Paris Thursday.
"During the meeting, the commitment to building, together with
European and Western partners and with the United States, solid
and effective security guarantees for Ukraine that are based on
the Euro-Atlantic context was reaffirmed," said Chigi.
"This is also based on a model that can partly follow what is
provided for in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, a hypothesis
that is attracting increasing interest among international
partners".
Meloni is to take part in the Summit on Peace and Security of
Ukraine convened by French President Emmanuel Macron in the
French capital and featuring the so-called coalition of the
willing.
