Italy's Mattia Furlani said he
aspired to do even better after winning the men's long jump gold
at the athletics indoor world championships at Nanjing Sunday.
"I never thought I could compete with the world's greats, to
have succeeded is an honor", said the 20-year-old
Italo-Senegalese from Marino near Rome.
"I did an excellent competition, but I could have done even
better, I aspire to do better.
"In any case I am very happy. Even the run-up improves, jump
after jump".
Furlani won with a long jump of 8.30 meters, "achieved in an
attempt that was supposed to serve to qualify".
This gold "for me is something out of the ordinary, now I have
to continue like this.
The Tokyo World Championships? "With tenacity and clinical edge
I can do even better" he concluded.
