The torrential rain and storms that
have been peltering Tuscany, prompting red alerts covering
cities such as Florence due to floods and landslides, eased in a
number of areas on Sunday.
Local authorities have lowered an extreme weather red alert to
orange in Valdarno Inferiore, Costa, Bisenzio and Ombrone
Pistoiese - all areas along the Arno river that stretch from the
town of Empoli to Pisa and Livorno along the coast.
Also on Sunday the weather alert was lowered to yellow in the
areas of Mugello, Florence and Valdarno Superiore that were hit
by storms on Friday and Saturday.
Several locations in the countryside and small urban centres
remained flooded, in particular along the Sieve river while the
Sgc Firenze-Pisa-Livorno state road connecting Florence to the
port of Livorno remained closed due to flooding.
