Maysoon Majidi, a 29-year-old Kurdish
activist who was arrested on 31 December 2023 on charges of
aiding illegal immigration, has been acquitted, "for not having
committed the crime", a Calabrian court said Wednesday.
The acquittal was issued by the Court of Crotone, presided over
by Edoardo D'Ambrosio.
When the sentence was read, the young woman burst into tears of
joy together with her brother Razhan, who was at her side,
together with her defense attorney, Giancarlo Liberati.
Last October, the same Court had released the young woman,
deeming the need for precautionary detention to have ceased.
