The president of the Italian Bishops
Conference (CEI), Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, on Monday hailed
efforts for a renewed presence of Christians in the political
life of Italy and Europe.
"We eye with sympathy efforts for a renewed presence of
Christians in the political life of the country and, I hope, of
Europe, starting with the Social Week of Trieste", Cardinal
Zuppi said introducing a session of the Permanent Episcopal
Council, referring to an annual political event for Italian
Catholics.
"It is important for this to happen along the path outlined by
the Church's social Doctrine, while in the legitimate plurality
of political expressions", he added.
"I would like the Jubilee to encourage us to draft creative and
stable programs for those experiencing difficulties, also in
cooperating with those sharing our same sensibility", he noted.
