The Australian Open of Italy's Sara
Errani and Jasmine Paolini ended in the second round, when the
fancies pair were beaten by Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider
7-5 7-5 in a repeat of the Olympic final won by the Italians in
Paris in one hour and 36 minutes.
It was a bitter defeat for the Italians who lost two carbon-copy
sets, both suffering breaks in the twelfth game.
The adventure of Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the mixed
doubles also ended Sunday, in the quarterfinals.
The Italian couple, winners of the last US Open and first seeds,
after having imposed themselves in two sets in their debut
against the Australians Destanee Aiava and Omar Jasika, in the
draw thanks to a wild card, lost 6-3 6-4, in an hour and nine
minutes of match, to the British couple Olivia Nicholls and
Henry Patten.
The doubles journey of Lucia Bronzetti in pair with Anhelina
Kalinina also ended Sunday.
The Italian and the Ukrainian were defeated 6-0 7-6(5) by the
Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia and the German Laura Siegemund.
