The preliminary hearings judge (GUP)
of a Juvenile Court on Tuesday sentenced to eight years and
eight months the only minor who took part in the gang rape of a
19-year-old woman in Palermo on 7 July last at an abandoned
construction site in the Foro Italico district of the Sicilian
capital, legal sources said.
The trial was held in abbreviated form.
The prosecutor had asked for eight years.
Six adults - Angelo Flores, Cristian Barone, Gabriele Di
Trapani, Christian Maronia, Samuele La Grassa, and Elio Arnao -
are all in prison detention at the moment and are also accused
of the sexual violence.
They too have asked to be tried under the abridged procedure,
which will begin in April.
The gang rape, part of a wave of sexual violence against women
and girls, shocked Italy.
