Lawyers representing Wolfgang Rieke,
the 63-year-old German truck driver who ran over and killed
Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin in Montebello Vicentino on
November 30, 2022, told a Vicenza court on Monday that a plea
bargain has been reached with prosecutors for him to serve a
jail term of three years, 11 months.
The same agreement had been rejected by a preliminary hearings
judge in December.
Rieke's lawyers also asked for him to be able to serve the
sentence under house arrest. He is currently in prison in
Vicenza.
Rieke was arrested in Germany last yhear and extradited to Italy
in August.
The court will give its ruling on March 11.
Rebellin, 51, was one of Italy's top riders in the 1990s.
His family got compensation of 825,000 euros from an insurance
company.
