Silvio Berlusconi's close former aide
Gianni Letta on Friday ensured the support of the late premier
and media mogul's children to his centre-right Forza Italia (FI)
in continuity with their father.
"The children" of Silvio Berlusconi "have asked me to be here
and convey their greetings, their convinced participation and
support in continuity with their father's wishes," said Letta,
opening the celebrations for the party's 30th anniversary.
The Berlusconi family has behaved "in an exemplary manner" since
his death in June 2023, he continued.
His five children have been "united, in agreement, caring
towards Marta (Fascina, Berlusconi's partner at the time of his
death, ed.), solicitous towards collaborators and companies" and
"likewise towards Forza Italia", added Letta, adding that "it
does honour to them and they have honoured Silvio Berlusconi"
regarding his decision to 'take the field' at the head of his
new soccer anthem-named political creature on January 26, 1994
to fill a void left by the Bribesville demolition of the
conservative establishment and ward off what had appeared an
inevitable post-Communist election win, in the first of three
government terms as Italy's longest serving postwar premier.
"It was an extraordinary political adventure but also an
extraordinary human adventure, as everyone is at last
rediscovering," concluded Letta.
