Gigi Riva will lie in state at
Cagliari football stadium to enable people to pay their respects
to the soccer great, who died on Monday at the age of 79, and
his funeral will take place at the Sardinian city's Basilica of
Our Lady of Bonaria on Wednesday.
The decision on the arrangements for the final farewell to Riva
was decided on Tuesday at a meeting involving his relatives, the
city and the prefect's office, sources said.
Thousands are expected to want to pay their respects to Riva,
Italy's record goalscorer with 35 strikes and the driving force
of Cagliari's 1970 scudetto winning team.
