A political row has erupted over the
appointment of Luca De Fusco as the new director of the Teatro
di Roma foundation, which runs several theatres in the Italian
capital, including the Teatro Argentina opera house.
Theatre director De Fusco was appointed at a meeting of the
Teatro di Roma foundation's board at which only board members
nominated by the right-wing central and regional governments
were present.
The foundation's president, Francesco Siciliano, and the board
member appointed by the centre-left city council, were absent.
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has said he is "disconcerted" by
the appointment.
"It's a great act of arrogance," Gualtieri said.
"It is political presumption that confirms their institutional
deficit.
"You need a manager to handle a foundation like the Teatro di
Roma one, not a director like De Fusco".
Siciliano said the appointment was illegitimate as it infringed
on his prerogatives and suggested legal action could be taken.
