Italy's revised EU-funded national
recovery and resilience plan (NRRP) contains a new measure worth
1.2 billion euro on reconstruction in Emilia Romagna after last
year's flood and landslide emergency that left 15 people dead
and caused billions of euros in damage.
The measure was the focus of a meeting between European Affairs
Minister Raffaele Fitto, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti,
extraordinary commissioner for reconstruction Francesco
Figliuolo and Emilia Romagna Governor Stefano Bonaccini ahead of
the visit to the region by Premier Giorgia Meloni and European
Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen on Wednesday.
Under the new measure, interventions must be selected by
September 2024 by means of orders issued by the extraordinary
commissioner.
All contracts must be awarded by June 30, 2025, and 90% of the
interventions must be completed by June 2026.
Fitto said in a statement issued after the meeting that
Figliuolo and Bonaccini had asked the government for specific
measures to support the administrative capacity of the
implementing bodies in enacting the NRRP measure.
Ministers Giorgetti and Fitto reportedly reiterated their
availability to identify additional solutions to strengthen the
technical capacity of the municipalities, on top of the measures
already provided for in the regulations adopted for the flood
emergency.
A specific technical meeting will be convened in the next few
days.
