Three million Italian television
viewers, the equivalent of 14.2% of the audience share for the
evening, tuned in to watch Pope Francis' exclusive interview to
TV talk-show host Fabio Fazio on his show Che Tempo Che Fa
(CTCF) on the Nove channel on Sunday.
The interview recorded a peak share of 16.4%, equal to 3.4
million viewers, making Sunday's broadcast of CTCF the
most-watched programme in the history of Nove.
In addition, #CTCF was the most commented programme of the
evening with over 300,000 interactions on social media.
During the interview, Pope Francis said he may follow the lead
of his predecessor Benedict XVI and retire one day, while
stressing that this is not on the agenda at the moment.
"Resignation is a possibility open to all popes," Francis told
left-leaning Fazio, who made his debut on Nove last autumn after
leaving state broadcaster Rai.
"But at the moment it is not at the centre of my thoughts".
The Argentine pontiff added that he yearns to return to his
homeland, as he has not been there for 10 years, and said he
will travel to Polynesia in August.
