A man was arrested on Tuesday in
relation to the death of his 71-year-old wife near Rome on
Monday evening.
He arrived at the hospital in Civita Castellana, in the province
of Viterbo, with his wife already dead and told doctors she had
fallen down the stairs at their home in nearby Sant'Oreste in
the province of Rome.
However, the medical staff at the hospital found that the
injuries were not compatible with his version of events and
called the Carabinieri police.
The investigation is being coordinated by the Tivoli public
prosecutor's office and investigators have now charged him with
murder.
During an initial inspection of the couple's home, the
Carabinieri police reportedly found objects carrying traces of
blood.
It is the first alleged femicide of the year after a 2023 dotted
with them.
