War destroys everything including
humanity said Pope Francis on Saturday in his audience with the
Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service CHARIS.
"War destroys everything, everything, it takes away humanity,"
said the pope.
"War also destroys the memory of the steps taken towards peace,"
he added, recalling his 2014 meeting with then Israeli President
Shimon Peres and Palestinian National Authority leader Abu Mazen
at the Vatican.
Francis also spoke of the Mass he held on Thursday at the Rome
War Cemetery, which holds the remains of Commonwealth soldiers
who died in Italy during World War II.
"On entering, I looked on the graves at the age of the fallen:
all young, between 20 and 30 years old," he said.
War "destroys youth. Please let us fight for peace, let us not
let this memory of peace be taken away", insisted the pope.
