Rules must be fixed so there is no
recurrence of fines to doctors for working overtime during the
COVID-10 pandemic, Health Minister Orazio Schillaci said after
President Sergio Mattarella intervened with Labour Minister
Marina Calderone to get fines totalling 37,000 to a number of
Bari hospital staff quashed.
The suspension of sanctions for doctors at the Policlinico di
Bari is a good thing, he said.
'We are ready to offer all our support to find the most suitable
solutions so that these regulations are quickly corrected and
the sanctions cancelled and an end is put to this paradoxical
affair'.
Schillaci stressed that 'the State cannot sanction its own
doctors and health workers after having asked and obtained an
extraordinary commitment from them at a time of exceptional
emergency such as the Covid 19 pandemic'.
