The Florence Public Prosecutor's
Office has asked for charges to be dropped against Marco
Cappato, treasurer of the right-to-die Luca Coscioni
association, who self-reported to the Florence Carabinieri after
helping 44-year-old Massimiliano X from San Vincenzo (Livorno),
a multiple sclerosis sufferer, to reach Switzerland where he
died by assisted suicide on 8 December, Florentine daily La
Nazione reported Wednesday.
Cappato has been cleared in several other assisted suicide cases
which he self-reported.
For the crime of aiding the 44-year-old's suicide, Felicetta
Maltese, a Florentine activist of the Legal Euthanasia campaign,
and journalist Chiara Lalli, who accompanied Massimiliano to the
clinic near Zurich where he died, also self-reported with
Cappato.
