The amount allocated by the
government as compensation to businesses and households affected
by the May flooding and landslide emergency in Emilia Romagna
has been lifted from 269 million euros to 600 million euros,
special commissioner General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo said
after a meeting at the premier's office in Palazzo Chigi on
Thursday.
The army general also announced an imminent "pilot ordinance
providing for very important simplifications" including the
possibility of awarding contracts for urgent interventions
directly.
Figliuolo also appealed to municipalities in the flood-striken
areas to file their requests for reimbursement for interventions
made so far.
"So far we have received requests for reimbursement worth just
500,000 euros, but we are ready to reimburse everything," he
said.
Flooding and landslides in Emilia Romagna caused by two bouts of
extreme weather in May left 15 people dead and caused billions
of euros in damage to property, infrastructure and agriculture.
