The death on Wednesday of five
railway workers in an accident on the Turin-Milan railway line
is "outrageous", the leader of Italy's second largest trades
union confederation Cisl Luigi Sbarra said on Thursday.
"The terrible accident that occurred last night on the
Turin-Milan railway line leaves us dismayed," said Sbarra on
social media, after a regional train reportedly travelling at
160 km/h hit and killed five men working on the tracks in the
proximity of Brandizzo station near Turin shortly before
midnight.
Two other workmen were unscathed.
"Five workers are dead, five families - to whom we send our
condolences - have been destroyed by the lack of safety
measures," he continued.
"This umpteenth tragedy is an outrage to all Italian workers,"
concluded Sbarra.
The train driver is in a state of shock.
