English actor and filmmaker Gary
Oldman has joined the cast of an as yet unnamed new film by
Paolo Sorrentino currently filming in Naples, Variety reported
on Wednesday.
Details of the role played by the actor known for his portrayal
of villains and whose performance of Winston Churchill in the
2017 film Darkest Hour won him an Academy Award for Best Actor
have not be disclosed.
Sorrentino's tenth feature film is said to be about a woman
named Parthenope, "who bears the name of her city but is neither
a siren nor a myth," according to statement by the filmmaker
whose The Great Beauty won Best Foreign Language Film at the
2013 Academy Awards, issued at the start of shooting.
In Greek mythology, Parthenope is the siren who, after failing
to lure Ulysses with her songs, threw herself into the sea and
drowned.
