Italian writer Alessandro Baricco,
whose 1994 theatrical monologue Novecento became Mediterraneo
Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore's first English language film,
has just been discharged form a Milan hospital after undergoing
a second bone marrow transplant for a rare form of blood cancer,
the 65-year-old Turin born novelist and playwright said
Wednesday.
"I now you shouldn't use social media like this...It's been 41
very tough days but I've got through it thanks to my partner
Gloria who is fantastic," he said on social media.
Baricco said the operation at San Raffaele Hospital had been a
success and he was keen to get back in the saddle, with his next
gig being a recital with the French Labèque sisters at La Scala
at the end of October.
