The arena near Naples where legendary Roman rebel gladiator Spartacus fought was proposed Monday to host the much-touted cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
The mayor of the town of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Caserta), Antonio Mirra, said he would be "delighted" to host the possible MMA showdown between the Facebook and Tesla founders at the local Anfiteatro Campano, from which the Thracian rebel slave gladiator escaped to shake the Roman Republic to its foundations in 73 BC.
Musk, 51, owner of X (ex-Twitter) and SpaceX as well as Tesla, on Sunday called Zuckerberg, 39, founder of Facebook (Meta) a "chicken" after the latter said the widely hyped bout wpould never take place.
Italy has ruled out the Colossem fo the showdown between the magnates but a number of other Italian sites have come forward including Pompeii and Verona's Roman amphitheater.
