A probe into culpable and negligent
manslaughter over the handling of the COVID-19 epidemic in
Lombardy has been shelved against the northern region's
rightwing Governor Attilio Fontana and other suspects, judicial
sources said Monday.
Nationalist League party bigwig Fontnaa, 71, who has run
Lombardy since 2018, saw charges against him dropped by a
ministerial court in Brescia.
Charges of refusing official acts for not implementing an
anti-flu plan have been maintained against the other suspects,
experts Silvio Brusaferro, Angelo Borrelli and Claudio D'Amario,
as well as for Lombardy welfare councillor Giulio Gallera and
former director general Luigi Cajazzo.
Similar COVID manslaughter charges were recently dropped against
former premier Giuseppe Conte and former health minister Roberto
Speranza.
