The turnout in local elections in
Italy including 13 provincial capitals Sunday and Monday was 59%
with over half of polling stations reporting their data,
compared to 62% at the previous round five years ago.
Over six million Italians have been called to the polls in the
first test for new centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD)
leader Elly Schlein and the last big test before next year's
European Parliament elections.
The centre right, which won a big victory in last September's
general election, again campaigned in a united bloc while the
centre left parties were split again.
