Italian book publishing head and the
government's extraordinary commissioner to next year's Frankfurt
Book Fair on Saturday tore up his cancellation of the
participation of physicist and writer Carlo Rovelli due to a row
after he accused Defence Minister Guido Crosetto of warmongering
over Ukraine.
"I renew my invitation to Professor Carlo Rovelli to participate
in the opening ceremony of Frankfurt 2024, to share with all of
us the beauty of research and the value of knowledge", said
Levi, special commissioner of the Italian Government Guest of
Honour 2024 at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, after his
scrubbing the invite caused a huge furore with Italian
publishers and many political parties urging Rovelli to be
reinstated amid criticism of alleged government censorship.
