Prosecutors in Imperia have asked to
drop charges against Italian singer Blanco for destroying
flowers during a temper tantrum at the Sanremo Song Festival
earlier this year, judicial sources said Wednesday.
Blanco had been placed under investigation by Imperia police
for damaging public property after he wrecked a floral
arrangement at the festival after problems with his sound
system.
The 20-year-old rapper and singer-songwriter destroyed the
flowers on the stage of the Sanremo music fest on opening night
on February 7during a tantrum over his having the problems with
the audio in his earplugs during his appearance as a guest
performer.
The Brescia born singer was the co-winner of the 2022 festival
with Mahmood for their song Brividi, Italy's representative at
the Eurovision Song Contest last year.
Festival Director and Presenter Amadeus said that Blanco would
not appear again as planned on the following night, even after
the rapper apologised profusely.
The consumer association Codacons, meanwhile, filed a complaint
to criminal prosecutors about the destruction of the flowers and
the related cost for the public purse.
Sanremo is staged by State broadcaster Rai.
Blanco was initially supposed to roll around in the flowers
rather than kicking them off the stage.
Amadeus told him to cool off and come back and sing later, but
he did not reappear.
