The proposal of ex foreign minister
Luigi Di Maio as EU Special Representative for the Gulf denotes
a "serious lack of respect" for Italian voters, sources within
the right-wing League party said on Thursday.
Many good Italian diplomats have what it takes for the post,
they added.
"The idea of Luigi Di Maio being special representative of the
EU in the Gulf continues to represent a serious lack of respect
towards Italian voters, who soundly rejected his actions,
towards the Italian government that does not support him, and
towards the many good Italian diplomats who have what it takes
to aspire to the role," said the sources.
